Sex workers wreaking havoc in Kuwadzana 3 according to residents

Sex workers turn Kuwadzana 3 into “big” brothel

Residents in Kuwadzana 3 suburb have complained over alleged rampant prostitution in the area and are calling for the intervention of authorities to curb the “social ill.”

The Harare Residents Trust said residents complained over the matter adding that several households have been turned into brothels where rooms are booked for purposes of sex work.

“Residents of Kuwadzana say there is rampant prostitution in Kuwadzana 3 where several households are host to brothels where men and women book rooms for the purpose of having sex,” the residents group said in a statement.

“School girls are at increasing risk of being bedded by irresponsible men, and reports indicate that even married women are heavily involved with young men.”

During a recent meeting in Kuwadzana, the matter was raised with council officials promising to act on the matter.

“Council officials and residents jointly denounced the practice saying several used condoms are always found along streets, in refuse bins and children playing at increased risk of taking the condoms and blowing them.”

The HRT said it has requested its leadership in the community to fully investigate the reports and update.

Kuwadzana residents attributed the situation to the existence of several beer outlets in the area.

A resident said in 2008, there was a petition to close most night clubs in the area but said there was no support from other locals.
