Police arrest 10 armed robbers

Police have arrested 10 suspects linked to a spate of robberies in and around Chinhoyi.

The 10 are linked to several cases of robberies in and around the Mashonaland West provincial capital and will appear in court soon.

National police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the suspects as Temba Kunyaira (30), Blessed Zakaria (27), Emmanuel Chisinga (24), Gift Masvavike (26), Nelson Mauda (31), Edwell Mutakati (27), Johane Tatenda (38), Joefrey Kubvara (37), Brandon Chademana (19) and Nqobile Moyo (23).

Using a blue Honda Fit vehicle and a Toyota Fun Cargo to pose as taxi operators, the suspects pounced on unsuspecting people and robbed them.

“Whilst the suspects were parked at a certain bottle store they were approached by three male adults who intended to hire one of their vehicles to Chinhoyi. Along the way, the driver stopped and the accused persons produced machetes and robbed cash and property amounting to RTGS $868 from the complainants and drove away,” Assistant Commissioner Nyathi said.

One of the victims identified one suspect a day later and alerted security leading to the arrests.
