Mo Salah fires warning shots ahead of Warriors date
Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah’s top drawer goal, a contender for the Premier League goal of the season, may have sent the Reds’ fans into frenzy, not so for the Zimbabwe national team faithfuls.
The Egyptian striker’s top form is not anything Sunday Chidzambga and his charges would want for now as the Warriors square off against the Pharaohs in the opening fixture of the Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
Salah secured a crucial 2-0 victory over Chelsea as Liverpool roared back to the top of the Premier League at a jubilant Anfield.
Senegalese striker, Sadio Mane's header in the 51st minute and Salah's 53rd minute 25-yard thunderbolt restored Jurgen Klopp's side's two-point lead champions and fellow title contenders, Manchester City.
Salah will lead his team against the Warriors in June with the impressive attacker having netted 53 goals in 83 Liverpool appearances.
He has a very impressive run in the Afcon qualifying matches where he is ranked among the best strikers in Africa.
However, Warriors goalkeeper, George Chigova said there was nothing to fear.
“Obviously we talk about him and the draw among ourselves. He is a good player but putting all the focus on him would be dangerous. It will give his teammates room to hurt us, so we treat all opposition players equally. All the teams are strong,” Chigova said.
Zimbabwe is in the same group with Egypt, Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda, a group most locals said was fair.
