Gonorenda Pours Water On Salam's Title Ambitions
Boxing is back at the Harare International Conference Centre and there will be plenty of action for boxing fans to look forward to. Three titles will be on the line in tonight’s event which has been dubbed “A Fistful of Dollars.”
Reigning Zimbabwe cruiserweight champion Chamunorwa “Sting” Gonorenda will headline the bill, and he will be defending his title against Nigerian Tony Salam. There has been no love lost between the two fighters since Salam initiated a war of words that continued to escalate right up until their press conference, where Gonorenda poured a bottled of water on Salams head during a heated exchange.
Salam heads into the bout with a record of twelve wins and one loss and he will be looking to make a statement with a victory over Gonorenda.
In the woman’s match-up, national lightweight champion Chiedza Hombakomba will take on Patricia Apolot of Uganda in what promises to be an intriguing affair. Apolot is a kick boxing convert and she has taken to boxing like a charm, having caught the eye with some impressive wins in Europe.
In another highly anticipated matchup, Namibian Lukas Ndafoluma will put his WBF Middleweight Intercontinental title on the line when he takes on South Africa-based Jimmy Mabunji from the DRC, who is the current holder of the WBF-Africa Super Middleweight title.
This match has been something fight fans have had to wait for, since it had to be postponed earlier in the year due to visa challenges.
The Gonorenda vs Salam fight promises to the most exciting affair of the night, and only time will tell if Salam's constant taunting will affect Gonerenda as he bids to successfully defend his title.
