Tsvangirai and his family suspected that colon cancer that has been afflicting the politician was the cause of the severe coughing last Thursday and rushed him to his specialist doctors in the neighbouring country.

MDC-T secretary General, Douglas Mwonzora told zifmnews.com that Tsvangirai inhaled a lot of dust after the malfunctioning air conditioning system.

Tsvangirai was diagnosed with cancer of the colon

“When he travelled from Gokwe, the air condition of his vehicle went down. They had to open windows of his car and that is when he inhaled a lot of dust. The Doctor said that is what caused the cough,” Mwonzora said.

“He made it clear that he had cancer of the colon and when he fell ill, his natural suspicion was that it was because of that condition.”

There was panic in the MDC-T and other opposition forces after news that Tsvangirai, who is set to lead a coalition of opposition parties under the MDC Alliance banner, had been taken ill while attending a strategic planning meeting in Kadoma.

Tsvangirai last year revealed that he had been diagnosed with cancer of the colon but made it clear that he was ready to soldier on and campaign for a victory in next year’s elections.

His spokesperson Luke Tamborinyoka early this week released a statement saying the former premier was recovering well and was expected back in the country soon.
