Dozens arrested for trading in sex-enhancing pills, illicit drugs
Police in Harare have arrested 59 suspected drug dealers, including those selling sex enhancing pills in the capital.
Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the 59 were arrested during the on-going crackdown by Drugs and Narcotic section as part of the force’s project to curb drug peddling throughout the country.
“59 suspects were arrested for various offences which include sale, display for sale and advertising sale, and possession of pharmaceutical drugs that are either unregistered or being sold at undesignated points,” Nyathi said.
He said one of the suspects was found with large quantities of drugs prohibited by the Zimbabwe Medical control Authority of Zimbabwe.
“One suspect was found in possession of over 3500 illicit tablets of different types, these were being sold from residential premises.”
Others arrested in said Assistant Commissioner Nyathi.
He said some who were arrested in avenues area were selling a variety of sex enhancing drugs.
“Thirteen suspects arrested at Harare Five Avenue Shopping Centre were selling types of alleged sex enhancing drugs,” he said.
Forty five suspects nabbed were arrested offences which include smoking and possession of drugs.
According to the police a total of 104 suspects were arrested during the operation against drug related offences.
According to the Ministry of Health and Child Care, 45% of all mental cases in the country are caused by drug and alcohol abuse.
