In a speech read on his behalf by acting director department of air transport management Nyikadzino Chifamba, Gumbo revealed that after the completion of the upgrading of the $150 million Victoria Falls International Airport their focus was now on Harare International Airport.
“Attention has now shifted to Harare International Airport which will soon be renamed to Robert Mugabe International Airport.”
“We have to make sure that the airport has modern amenities, facilities and equipment,” he said.
Gumbo said all the modern infrastructure and equipment might be a waste of resources if high customer service standards are not maintained.
He said in response to the anticipated growth in air transport the government is continuing with its aviation infrastructural development and equipment modernization programme.
He says this is evident by the recent upgrading of the Victoria Falls International Airport which was commissioned by President Robert Mugabe in November last year.
Nyikadzino was representing Gumbo at the Customer Service Week Celebrations organised by the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe held at the Airport’s Domestic terminal.
CAAZ workers from the three international airports were awarded certificates and prizes for good customer services throughout the year.
