3000 women die of cervical cancer each year
Ministry of Health and Child Cares says the country is losing over 3000 women every year to cervical cancer.
Director of Epidemiology and Disease Control in the Ministry of Health and Child Care Dr Portia Manangazira said women should get screened for cervical cancer because it can be treated easily if dictated early.
“Despite the global statistics, our statistics is equally shocking, we are almost losing three thousand women annually to cervical cancer, and we have a huge bottleneck when it comes to comprehensive management of cancer once it is established” she said.
The cost of cervical cancer treatment range from US$368 – 11400 depending on the type of hospital and treatment involved if the diseases is not dealt with at very early stage.
Zimbabwe is among top 10 countries with cervical cancer burden in the world.
According to the World Cancer Research Fund, Zimbabwe has the fifth highest burden of cervical cancer in the world.
